Lumbini: Her Excellency Ambassador of People’s Republic of China Yu Hong and her delegates from Chinese Embassy in Nepal visited Lumbini on 11th October 2018. Board members and the staffs of the Lumbini Development Trust (LDT) welcomed the visiting team. Vice Chairman Venerable Metteyya Shakyaputta, Treasurer Surendra Muni Shakya, Board Member Hon. Durga Prasad Upadhyay, Board Member Amerika Kohar, and staff of the LDT and Mayor of Lumbini Cultural Municipality Mr. Man Mohan Chaudhari were present to welcome the Ambassador’s delegation.
Information Chief Hari D. Rai briefed the Excellency and the team about the importance of Lumbini as the holy birthplace of Sakyamuni Buddha and UNESCO’s World Heritage Site. The delegates firstly visited the Mayadevi Temple and paid homage to the birth spot of the Buddha. Then, they observed archaeological remains, Puskarani pond, Bodhi Tree, Asoka Pillar in the Sacred Garden.
Her Excellency and the team also visited the Eternal Peace Flame from where they observed the Lumbini Monastic Zone. The ambassador was accompanied by the First Secretary and the Ambassador’s Husband Mr. Yu Jie, First Secretary and the Chief of the Administration Mr. Bai Dongshi, Third Secretary Mr. Ma Yong and Attache Ms. Luo Jin Ying.
Her Excellency Yu Hong expressed happiness to have opportunity to visit Lumbini, the birthplace of the Buddha. She said, “Lumbini is one of the most important pilgrimage destinations in the world, especially for peace loving people. More Chinese people would visit Lumbini in the days ahead, she added.
