TOURISTS INCREASED IN LUMBINI IN 2019

Tourists Increased in Lumbini in 2019

 

Tourist visitation in Lumbini, the holy birthplace of Sakyamuni Buddha and World Heritage Site has mounted in 2019 by 1.58 percent. Lumbini had received total of 1,534,110 tourists in 2018 which increased to be 1558326 in 2019. 1178140 Nepalese, 206171 Indian and 174015 third-country visitors visited Lumbini in 2019 that makes 1.58 % increment in total. Lumbini categorically witnessed 0.65 % of increment of Nepali visitors, similarly, 6.47 % Indian tourists and 2.42% of third country visitors increased in Lumbini in 2019 in comparison with that of 2018. The comparison of tourist arrival in Lumbini is presented in the following table.     

Lumbini received highest number of visitors in the month of April in 2019. The tourist visitation was recorded 268019 in the month as a large number of visitors visited Lumbini to attend Chaite Purnima and Buddha Jayanti Festivals. Similarly, in the months of November, December, February, March, October and January visited considerable number of tourists in Lumbini. But a smaller number of tourist visitation was recorded in the months of August, June, May, September and July as before.    

Among the Third country visitors; Sri Lanka (47507), Myanmar (30791), Thailand (28364), China (21269), Vietnam (8345), S. Korea (6145), and Germany (3306) were orderly placed in top seven position out of 115 countries that visited Lumbini in 2019.    

Political stability, aggressive publicity role of social Medias and other Medias, stability in other Buddhist countries have also played an important role to mount foreign visitors in Lumbini. Indian tourists have also increased in Lumbini in a good percentage. Despite, large number of domestic visitors, the increment percentage is lower in the comparison of other two categories.
