UNESCO HEAD TO NEPAL MICHAEL VISITED LUMBINI

November 22, 2021, Lumbini:UNESCO Representative to Nepal and Head of the Office Kathmandu Michael Croft visited Lumbini. He was accompanied by Programme Coordinator Nabha Basnyat. He visited the historic Buddhist sites of the Greater Lumbini Area including World Cultural Heritage Site of Lumbini. He discussed about the present situation of historic sites with the Vice Chairman Awadhesh Tripathi and other officials of the Trust.   

After observing historic Buddhist sites lying in the Greater Lumbini, he remarked that he had been impressed by the historicity and archaeology of sites associated with the lives of three Buddhas i.e. Sakyamuni, Kanakamuni and Krakuchhanda.

He committed to work for enlisting Tilaurakot in the world cultural heritage sites’ list. The site of Tilaurakot where Siddhartha spent twenty nine years of his princely life and Ramagrama, the site with a stupa containing the Buddha’s relic are in the tentative list of World Cultural Heritage of the UNESCO.

LDT officials including Member Secretary Sanuraja Sakya, Project Chief Er. Saroj Bhattarai and Chief Administrative Officer, Chief of Archaeology Section Himal Upreti welcomed and showed him around the sites.
