Dr. Sokhom Thok, the Secretary for Tourism Ministry of Cambodia visited Lumbini on March 16, 2023. Lumbini Development Trust welcomed him in Lumbini.

He visited Mayadevi Temple and paid homage to the holy birthplace of the Buddha. He also observed ancient Buddhist monuments in the vicinity of Mayadevi Temple. He visited the Cambodian Monastery and discussed with monastery authorities. He also observed other international monasteries in Lumbini. Information Chief Dr. Hari D. Rai showed him around Lumbini.

Secretary Thok also held a brief meeting with the authorities of Gautam Buddha International Airport, Bhairahawa. He said, "Cambodia is interested in operating international flights at GBIA to facilitate Buddhist tourism between Nepal and Cambodia." He further opined that charter flights would serve the pilgrims in the beginning which would shape into scheduled flights in future.
