German Embassy and UNDP Officials Engage in Talks for the Preservation of Buddhist Heritage in Lumbini
Lumbini, December 19, 2023: A significant visit unfolded in Lumbini from December 17 to 19 as officials from the German Embassy and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) delved into discussions with local authorities to explore collaborative initiatives for the development and preservation of Buddhist heritage sites.
Leading the delegation was Dr. Stephan Russek, Deputy Head of Mission and Head of Development Cooperation and Economics at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany. Joining him was Sudip Aryal, Head of Field Office for Lumbini and Gandaki Province at UNDP, reflecting the shared commitment to sustainable development.
The delegation engaged in constructive discussions with the Lumbini Development Trust, led by Vice Chair Dr. Lharkyal Lama, to explore avenues of cooperation in the development and preservation of Buddhist heritage sites. The talks aimed at fostering a partnership that aligns with the shared vision of promoting cultural richness and historical significance.

During their stay, the delegation was guided through the cultural and historical gems of Lumbini by Information and PR Chief Dr. Hari D. Rai. Dr. Rai provided insights into the significance of Lumbini, Ramagrama, and the archaeological site Panditpur, offering a comprehensive understanding of the region's cultural tapestry.
Official Tour Guide Dilip Singh Rai led the officials on a guided tour to the sacred sites of Kapilavastu, providing a deeper appreciation for the historical and spiritual dimensions of the area.
