Lumbini Visit by American Ambassador Thompson for Nepal

American Ambassador to Nepal, His Excellency Dean R. Thompson, made a significant visit to Lumbini, the birthplace of Sakyamuni Buddha. This visit coincided with his participation in the inauguration ceremony of Nepal Electricity Authority's first 400 KV substation in Nawalparasi district of Lumbini Province. Ambassador Thompson's visit to Lumbini on Friday was marked by a warm welcome extended to him by Sanuraja Shakya, the Secretary of the Lumbini Development Trust.
During his visit, Ambassador Thompson, accompanied by a delegation, explored various significant sites in Lumbini. They paid homage at the Peace Flame, visited the revered Mayadevi Temple, and reflected by the Sacred Pond. Additionally, they observed the historic Asoka Pillar, gathering valuable insights about these cultural and religious landmarks.
Moreover, the delegation enjoyed a boat ride in the Lumbini Central Canal and visited several international monasteries in Lumbini during their visit.
Dr. Hari D. Rai, the Information and PR Chief, provided a comprehensive briefing to Ambassador Thompson and his delegation regarding the historical and spiritual significance of Lumbini as the birthplace of Buddha.
The presence of Information Officer Rajan Basnet, Security Officer Khagendra Kaflé, security chiefs of the Trust, and local dignitaries underscored the importance of Ambassador Thompson's visit and demonstrated the warm hospitality extended by the local community. Overall, Ambassador Thompson's visit to Lumbini symbolized the enduring cultural and diplomatic ties between Nepal and the United States.
