TOURISTS ARRIVAL MOUNTED IN LUMBINI BY 20.76 % IN 2017

The number of tourists in Lumbini, the holy birthplace of Sakyamuni Buddha and World Heritage Site has mounted in 2017 by 20.76 percent in total in comparison to 2016. The number of tourists to Lumbini decreased to 748,294 in 2015 because of devastating earthquake and political instability that swelled to 1,285,680 in 2016. Lumbini received 12,51,346 Nepalese, 1,55,444 Indian and 1,45,796 third-country tourists in 2017 totaling 15,52,586 that make 20.76 % increment to the previous year's total tourists' arrival.

Among the passport holders Sri Lanka (48528), Thailand (27,603), Myanmar (21,531), China (15,770), S. Korea (5,103), Vietnam (5,043), Bhutan (2278), U.K. (1677), Germany (1636), and Australia (1625) orderly placed in the top ten position out of 87 countries that visited Lumbini in 2017. 

Political stability in Nepal is the main reason of domestic tourist increment. Aggressive publicity role of social Medias and other Medias, political stability in other Buddhist countries have also played an important role to mount visitors in Lumbini. Speedy development activities of Lumbini Development Trust, wider range of publicity of Lumbini, better accommodation and roadway facilities helped increase of the tourist in Lumbini. 

The Trust charges Rs. 200, Rs 100 and Rs. 16 for the Third Country, the SAARC and Indian visitors respectively while Nepali citizens enjoy free entry in Lumbini. The Trust is accelerating up the activities of exploration, excavation, conservation and Lumbini Master Plan implementation with government's aid and its internal income.
