Luis Carlos Cueto, Deputy Mayor of Madrid visited Lumbini on February 26, 2018. The Dy Mayor was accompanied by CEO of Athelico De Madrid Farnando Lopez, Media Persons Maria Cano and Edward Roman from Spain and Bidhya Sundar Shakya, Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolis and Naresh Shrestha, and Vice President of Nepal Chamber of Commerce. 

The delegates were welcomed by Lumbini Development Trust, officials of Chamber of Commerce of Nawalparasi, Rupandehi and Kapilavastu district and Nepali media persons in Lumbini. The delegates paid homage to Mayadevi Temple, the birthplace of the Buddha and observed the long-standing monuments in the Sacred Garden. 

Chief Floriculturist Sabbir Ahamad Khan, Information and PR Chief Hari D. Rai, Information Officer Rajan Basnet and Tour Guide Dilip Singh Rai of Lumbini Development Trust explained the archaeology and history of Lumbini. The delegates were also escorted to the Lumbini Monastic Zone where the delegates overserved different international Buddhist monasteries. 

The Dy Mayor shared Spanish experience in tourism development and expressed his commitment for cooperation in tourism promotion of Lumbini during a hi-tea hosted by LDT in Lumbini Hotel Kasai, Lumbini.
