April 17, 2018, Lumbini: Chief of Army Staff Rajendra Chhetri visited Lumbini today. He landed Lumbini by Nepal Army helicopter at 11:00 am. The Chief and his team was welcomed at Lumbini helipad by Treasurer Surendra Muni Shakya, Project Chief and Acting Member Secretary Saroj Bhattarai and other officers.
Chief Chhetri observed the Lumbini Hall being constructed by Nepal Army. Government of Nepal has entrusted the responsibility to Nepal Army and provided necessary budget for Lumbini Hall construction where 2562nd Buddha Jayanti Ceremony 2018 is being celebrated.
The Chief and his team rode a boat at Lumbini Central Canal to get to Eternal Peace Flame from where they walked to Mayadevi. The Chief paid homage to the birth spot of the Buddha at Mayadevi Temple and observed the historic monuments in Sacred Complex.
Er. Saroj Bhattarai briefed him on present physical development activities and historical background of Lumbini. The Project Chief also informed him overall progress of preparation for the International Buddhist Conference and 2562nd Buddha Jayanti Celebrations.
The Chief Chhetri expressed his commitment to make forthcoming events a grant success. “Nepali Army is ever committed to help Lumbini Development Trust to accelerate development activities", he further added.
