A Workshop Conducted in Myanmar
A Workshop on Collaboration between two UNESCO World Heritage Sites Lumbini and Bagan, for tourism and heritage research and management jointly organized by the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture, Myanmar and Lumbini Development Trust, Nepal In collaboration with the Union of Myanmar Travel Associations, at the National Museum Yangon on Sunday 20th October 2019
At the inaugural session, His Excellency U Kyi Min, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture, Myanmar, Venerable Metteyya Sakyaputta, Vice Chairman Lumbini Development Trust, Nepal, U Naung Naung Han, President Union of Myanmar Travel Associations and U Kyaw Oo Lwin, Director General, Department of Archaeology and National Museum, Myanmar were highlighted the potential collaboration between two precious Buddhist Heritage sites, to be made easier and more attractive travel between Nepal and Myanmar, publicity and marketing of heritage sites needs to be coordinated between both countries and to improve visitor experiences and ensure sustainability, requires direct flights between the two countries, along with simplification of obtaining visas and waiving of visa fees in both countries and also coordination for the success Visit Nepal 2020.
The program was coordinated by Mr. Kai Weise, a International Heritage Management Consultant and Four scholars from Nepal and Myanmar were presented papers on Exploring Sustainable Pilgrimage, Recent Discoveries at the Site of Tilaurakot in Nepal's Terai by Professor Robin Coningham, Management and Tourism of Lumbini and the Buddhist Circuits of Nepal by Mr. Gyanin Rai, Tourism Development and Recommendations for Collaboration on Tourism and Heritage Research Management between Bagan and Lumbini by Ms. Daw Kyi Kyi Aye and Twinning the Heritage: Opportunities and Challenges by Mr. May Myat Mon Win. There were active participations by the various levels of experts and stakeholders and made recommendations on tourism facilitation, continued dialogue and planning and collaboration in research as an outcome.
