Newly Appointed Vice Chairman Dr. Lama Assumes Office at Lumbini Development Trust
Dr. Lhakyal Lama (Khempo Chime Chhiring), the recently appointed Vice Chairman of the Lumbini Development Trust, has officially commenced his responsibilities at the primary office situated within the Birthplace of Lord Buddha in Lumbini. Dr. Lama's designation as Vice Chairman entails overseeing official duties and supervising activities within the sacred vicinity of Lumbini.
Upon his arrival at the office, Dr. Lhakyal Lama received a warm welcome from various trust members, including Dhundiraj Bhattarai (Siddhicharan), the Treasurer of the trust, Sanuraja Shakya, the Member Secretary, Saroj Bhattarai, the Project Chief, and Gyanin Rai, the Chief Administrative Officer, along with other staff members. Addressing the attendees before taking on his role, Dr. Lama expressed his unwavering dedication to the advancement of Lumbini.
Dr. Lhakyal Lama has been actively engaged in advocating for the significance of Lumbini and the teachings of Lord Buddha on an international scale, participating in diverse global Buddhist conferences. His profound understanding of Buddhist philosophy and education has contributed to his recognition of Lumbini's importance both within Nepal and worldwide.
Throughout his tenure as Vice Chairman of the Lumbini Development Trust, Dr. Lama aims to uphold the legacy of his predecessors by fostering the development and promotion of Lumbini, the revered birthplace of Lord Buddha. He underscored the pivotal role Lumbini plays as a pilgrimage destination for Buddhists worldwide and emphasized the necessity of maintaining an inviting atmosphere for visitors.
Dr. Lhakyal Lama's profound commitment to Buddhist philosophy and the enhancement of Lumbini's status is widely acknowledged. His instrumental efforts led to the registration of over 250 monasteries across Nepal and the successful integration of the remaining monasteries into the national registry, totaling approximately 3,000. In 2014, he played a pivotal role in ensuring the accurate registration of monasteries, leading to their official recognition and preservation as vital centers of Buddhist practice.
Beyond his local contributions, Dr. Lhakyal Lama's dedication extends to his active involvement with the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC). Serving as a member of IBC's permanent committee since 2012, he was subsequently elected as the Secretary of IBC in 2016, a position he holds to this day.
Dr. Lhakyal Lama's contributions to the global Buddhist community encompass various international forums and conferences centered around Buddhism. His influence extends beyond spiritual matters, encompassing his participation in the formation of Nepal's constitution.
