Tree Planting at Devdaha Archaeological Site

 

Lumbini, September 4, 2023: The Lumbini Development Trust has initiated a tree planting project at various archaeological sites situated in Devdaha, the ancestral hometown of Lord Buddha. On Monday, the Trust commenced the planting of over a hundred tree species, including mango, guava, bael, ashoka, fig, bay leaf, neem, camphor, and a variety of flowers, in the proximity of Bairimai, Kanyamai, Bhawanipur, and the Devdaha contact office.

 

Dhundiraj Bhattarai (Siddhicharan), the Treasurer of the Trust, and Secretary Sanuraja Shakya led the tree planting initiative. Devdaha, the historic capital of the Koliya dynasty, is renowned as the maternal residence of Buddha's mother, Queen Maya Devi, along with Prajapati and Princess Yasodhara. The tree plantation project aims to enhance the greenery and development of archaeological sites in the ancestral home region of Buddha, as outlined by the Lumbini Development Trust.

 

Treasurer Bhattarai provided insights into the historical significance of Devdaha and its archaeological sites, emphasizing the importance of continuous tree planting to attract tourists and enhance the beauty of these ancient sites. Additionally, Secretary Sanuraja Shakya underscored the necessity for excavating and preserving the archaeological sites in the Devdaha region. The Trust is collaborating with various organizations, including the Department of Archaeology, to accomplish this objective.

 

The tree planting program was executed in coordination with the Botany Division of the Trust, under the supervision of the Devdaha Office. The event saw the participation of Krishna Prasad Sapkota, the Chief Administrative Officer of Devdaha Municipality, Krishna Prasad Adhikari, Ward Chairperson of Ward No. 7, Himal Kumar Upreti, Chief of the Archaeology Division, Kamalesh Verma, Chief of the Botany Section, Navaraj Adhikari, Kisan BK, and Damodar Bhandari from the Trust.
