His Excellency Abrar H. Hashmi, the Ambassador of Pakistan, visited Lumbini—the sacred birthplace of Lord Buddha and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Upon his arrival, he was warmly welcomed by Acting Member-Secretary of the Lumbini Development Trust, Gyanin Rai, along with officials and staff of the Trust.
During the visit, the Ambassador was given a detailed briefing on the Lumbini Master Plan, its core objectives, ongoing development activities, and the conservation efforts within the World Heritage Site. He was also informed about the historical, religious, and cultural significance of major archaeological monuments, including the Maya Devi Temple, the Ashoka Pillar, the Puskarini Pond, and other heritage structures.
Constructive discussions were held between the Lumbini Development Trust and Ambassador Hashmi on tourism promotion in Lumbini, enhancing facilities for pilgrims and visitors, expanding infrastructure, and exploring avenues for future collaboration. The two sides also exchanged views on the preservation and promotion of the rich Buddhist Heritage in Pakistan, as well as opportunities for strengthening international cooperation in this sector.
Chief Information Officer Dr. Haridhwaj Rai and Information Assistant Bikash Lama guided the Ambassador through the Maya Devi Temple premises and the International Monastic Zone, providing an in-depth overview of the sacred sites. The visit was regarded as an important step toward expanding cultural ties and fostering collaboration between the two countries in the conservation of Buddhist heritage.
