Lumbini, April 16: The Ambassador of India to Nepal, His Excellency Naveen Srivastava, paid an official visit to Lumbini, the sacred birthplace of Gautama Buddha, on Wednesday.

During the visit, the Ambassador offered prayers at the revered Mayadevi Temple and observed the archaeological remains that mark the exact birthplace of the Buddha. The visit also included a tour of the Asoka Pillar, erected by Emperor Ashoka in 249 BCE, which stands as a historical testimony confirming Lumbini as the B2233244544568uddha’s birthplace.

The Ambassador also visited the International Centre for Buddhist Culture and Heritage in the Lumbini Monastic Zone, a significant project being constructed by the Government of India to promote Buddhist culture and heritage.

On the occasion, Member Secretary Deepak Shrestha presented a token of love to the Ambassador. Likewise, Dr. Hari D. Rai briefed the entourage of His Excellency on the historical, cultural, and developmental aspects of Lumbini.

The Ambassador expressed deep reverence for the site and highlighted the shared cultural and spiritual heritage between India and Nepal, particularly in relation to Buddhism. Emphasizing the importance of Lumbini as a global center of peace, the Ambassador noted the need to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in promoting Buddhist tourism and heritage conservation.

Officials of the Lumbini Development Trust briefed the Ambassador on ongoing development activities and future plans aimed at enhancing facilities for pilgrims and visitors in the Greater Lumbini Area.

The visit is expected to further deepen cultural ties and mutual collaboration between Nepal and India, especially in promoting Lumbini as an international destination for peace and spiritual tourism.
